Michael was born and raised in the Camberley area, and has become a trusted and respected member of the local community. Starting out as an estate agent, he then became a financial advisor and founded Michael Usher Mortgage Services in 1993 and Gurkha Mortgages in 2005.
Michael was one of the first brokers to help a Nepalese client buy a property in the UK. When Gurkha Army members and their families were given the right to remain in the country, Michael saw a huge increase in Nepalese clients and became the go-to broker for the Nepalese community.
Given the complicated nature of mortgages and insurance, Michael decided that to help his Nepalese clients he should hire Nepalese advisors who could explain everything in Nepali and English. So Gurkha Mortgages was launched in 2005, run by a friendly team of experienced Nepalese mortgage advisors.
Michael has built close friendships with many Gurkha families over the years, and he is very proud to provide such a valuable service to the Nepalese community.
Mitch is Michael’s step-son and he joined the family business in 2011. An experienced Mortgage and Protection Advisor, Mitch also
has superb managerial skills, creating a happy work environment for our team whilst instilling a customer-first mentality.
Mitch is extremely approachable and friendly and is known for making our customers’ experience as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
When Mitch isn’t hard at work, you might find him at White Hart Lane supporting Spurs. And when he’s not at the football, Mitch likes to get out and see the world – his number one recommendation is the beautiful Khao Sok in Thailand, apparently it’s a must!
Biva has been with us since 2012 and she is known for her passion and friendly nature, always providing a high-quality service and looking after her clients from start to finish.
Biva was once an English teacher and radio presenter in her home country Nepal, and she is a respected member of the British Gurkha community.
What else do you love doing Biva?
“I love music and travelling, Prague is my favourite city. I also like taking part in charity events as often as possible.”
Having joined our team in 2011, Sharas is now one of our top mortgage advisors. He has great connections with solicitors and estate agents, especially throughout the Nepalese community; and is frequently recommended by his clients all over the UK, Brunei, Germany & Kenya.
Sharas’ father and grandfather both served in the British Army under the 6GR Regiment, and Sharas has an excellent relationship with many other regiments across the UK.

“I support Manchester City, and I also love sports cars”
After 3 years in sales, Sujit joined the company in 2018 as a paraplanner. He has completed his CeMap and training and is now a fully qualified mortgage and protection advisor. Sujit is highly competent and has a natural flair for the job.
What else do you love doing Sujit?
“Having graduated in sports science, my love of sports is still strong. I mainly follow rugby, tennis, and I’m a devoted Liverpool FC fan!”
Arbin joined us with a wealth of experience in financial services, having worked as a personal banker for NatWest and then as an assistant manager at RBS. His skills and knowledge are perfectly suited to the mortgage industry, as he has proven since becoming a paraplanner in early 2022. Recently, Arbin transitioned from a Paraplanner to a Protection Specialist, offering bespoke advice to our Nepalese clients. His friendly, can-do attitude has made him popular with the team and with his clients.
What else do you love doing Arbin?
“I love travelling and documenting my adventures on YouTube. I also love to stay active – playing football or badminton, running 5K challenges or flying down hills on a mountain bike, I like to mix it up… but the more adrenaline the better!”
After studying Management and Tourism at the University of Surrey, Dawn pursued a career as a pension and investment
paraplanner. She has worked in the financial sector since 2005 and brings a wealth of invaluable experience and knowledge to the
team.
What else do you love doing Dawn?
“When I’m not looking after my little boy and my Labradoodle, Echo, you’ll find me out running or at the gym.”
With a wealth of experience behind her across various industries, Sima joined Gurkha Mortgages as a paraplanner in 2021. She has already proved to be an important cog in the wheel, supporting one of our busiest brokers. Sima processes applications efficiently and competently, helping our advisors to provide the highest quality service to our customers.
What else do you love doing Sima?
“I absolutely love travelling and I try to get away at least twice a year. One of my favourite places so far is Bali in Indonesia… I can’t wait to get back there one day!”
Having previously worked as a Healthcare Assistant and then as a Sales Executive for life science conferences, Sagun joined our Gurkha Mortgage team as a Mortgage & Protection Paraplanner. With a degree in Biomedical Science and hands-on lab experience during a placement year, she brings a strong analytical background and attention to detail to the role.
What else do you love doing, Sagun?
“I’m absolutely obsessed with cats! In my spare time, I love taking my cat out for walks and getting creative with nail art.”
With a Fashion Degree and seven years in the retail industry, including five years as a Sales Advisor and two years as a Recruitment Administrator, Susma has gained valuable experience in customer interaction and organisational skills.
What else do you love doing Susma?
“In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, exploring new hiking trails (I’ve been to the Seven Sisters several times!), and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. My passion for creativity also shines through in my love for designing and sewing my own garments. I also love reading, listening to music—especially K-POP—and immersing myself in new experiences.”
Anna is one of our longest serving Mortgage Administrators, whose career has spanned finance and property. With so many years experience, Anna prides herself on being able to identify and resolve issues quickly, whilst keeping her clients well informed throughout.
What else do you love doing Anna?
“I love having afternoon tea with friends, and I’m very into cooking… but nothing too spicy though!”
Debbie began her career in banking before qualifying as an advisor in 1997 and joining Michael Usher Mortgage Services. She is now our longest-serving member of staff and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. She manages our Accounts Department as well as our main office on Saturdays. Debbie is friendly, approachable, and is known for her impeccable attention to detail.
What else do you love doing Debbie?
“Between my job and 3 teenage daughters I’m kept pretty busy! But when I do get some downtime I like to relax with a good book, get moving in the gym, potter around in my garden, meet up with friends, help my horse-riding daughter in the stables, and travel.”
Amanda has worked in financial services since 2001. She brings a wealth of knowledge to help our ever-growing team and is a valuable member of our accounts department.
What else do you enjoy doing Amanda?
“I love going to the gym… and when I’m not sweating away in spin classes or circuits, I enjoy socialising, spending time with family, and travelling!”
Steph has been with us since 2017 and she was promoted to Senior Operations Manager in 2023. Starting out as Michael’s right-hand woman, she’s now responsible for keeping many different parts of the business on track. She’s essentially the glue that holds Michael Usher Mortgage Services together!
What else do you love doing Steph?
“I enjoy having pink gin lemonades with friends and walking my dog Honey!”
With a BA (Hons) in TV Production and an MA in Media & Communications from Bournemouth University, Jay has developed a strong passion for creativity and always has an idea ready to bring to life.
What else do you love doing, Jay?
“In my spare time, I like to keep fit through weight training at the gym and walking my dog, Blu. I also enjoy staying up to date with the latest social media trends and celebrity gossip.”
